Version 1.3 of Tinkercad's free iOS app for the Apple iPad is now available. You can read the full list of updated features on our App Store listing, but we’ll use this blog post to highlight a few changes that we think you’ll appreciate.

    Action Modifier Button

One of the drawbacks of using Tinkercad on a touch screen has been the lack of modifier keys, such as shift, control, or alt. This can be especially frustrating when trying to scale an object up or down while preserving the original proportions. On a computer, it’s a simple matter of holding down the shift key while you scale. (7)-2

As a way to add similar functionality to the tablet experience, we’ve added an Action Modifier button. This is a virtual button in the lower left corner of the 3D editor that modifies certain actions, similar to how the Shift key works when using Tinkercad on a computer.

Specifically, the Action Modifier button can be used to:

    • Constrain object movement in one direction on the Workplane (orthogonally).
    • Scale an object equal in all directions while dragging a handle. (uniform-scale)
    • Rotate in snapping increments of 45 degrees.

    Multiple Language Support

Just like our online experience, the Tinkercad app now includes the ability to change the language of the app. The supported languages include Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.

To change Tinkercad's language, exit the app, tap the Settings app for iOS, scroll down and tap Tinkercad, then "Language". After choosing a language setting, restart the app to see the chosen language.

    AR Export

For those of you who feel inspired to explore the possibilities of exporting Tinkercad designs for use in augmented reality (AR), we’ve improved the app’s ability to export USDZ files. This format allows you to view and animate your Tinkercad designs in apps such as Apple’s Reality Composer. Additionally, designs exported as USDZ will now retain the color, real world size, and orientation that you’ve defined in Tinkercad.

    Saved Credentials

We know how annoying it can be to re-enter your login information each time you use the app. To help you jump right back into designing in Tinkercad, credentials are now saved to help streamline the sign-in process.
