How did you find out about Tinkercad? We have been with Tinkercad so long we honestly cannot remember! All our students use this and we love the ease of use and sharing of fantastic ideas!
What is your favorite feature in the Tinkercad editor? Holes!!!! We love putting pukas in things!!! Puka is the Hawaiian word for hole. We wish other programs appreciated how versatile this simple concept is. So we don’t bother with anything else now.
Why are you a #TinkerStar? We use Tinkercad exclusively in our after school program, in our small school in Hawaii (less than 200 kids grades 1 to 8). The ‘block’ concepts and ability to add ‘holes’ (pukas) embraces the design methodology of intermediate and middle school children. They can finish a design, of their own imagination, within an hour and output to our printers. Tinkercad brings more to our 3D printing classes than just downloading and printing models. We can include ALL student, not just the technology students, by adding this design process.
What is your favorite model you have designed in Tinkercad? ALL our designs are awesome and we are so proud of all them. We are working on publishing some of their better ones. Our student assembled a Ciclop 3D Scanner (so proud of them!) and we scanned a 16oz plastic coke bottle. We used the scanned model as a basis to design our super cool ‘coke bottle rocket‘ by designing a rocket body, nose cones and fins around the scanned bottle to come up with a custom fitted pieces using Tinkercad!! We can’t wait to test this…
Anything else you would like us to know? Our students are really excited with the new beta!! So awesome! Thanks for giving us all the ability to share and use designs and for giving our kids this unbelievable chance to create and design. Mahalo and Aloha!!
