Matthew Burch, a STEM educator at the Somerville Public Schools, is working to embed mathematics within meaningful classroom projects. In one of these projects, his students construct earthquake resistant buildings designed to carry a certain load and withstand a vigorous shake.

Burch’s students use Tinkercad as a tool to brainstorm and model buildings, and they are encouraged use the design process to find solutions to real world problems.
