Tinkercad Username: zachary krisher
How did you find out about Tinkercad? I was searching for a prototyping and 3D modeling tool for our elementary and middle school Makerspaces–something the students could just dive into and use their creativity with. More complex program like Fusion 360 and Blender are great for more experienced users, but the learning curve is high.
What is your favorite feature in the Tinkercad editor? I love the simplicity. When working with students, we are really focusing on spatial awareness and transitioning from 2D and 3D planes. Tinkercad’s tools are clear and concise, and a great way for everyone to learn how to manipulate objects. You can make some amazing things through creative usage of just the basic shapes.
Why are you a #TinkerStar? Well, to be honest it is not just me. My after school maker club focused on designing their town of Accident, MD and bringing it to life with a 3D printer–which would have been impossible without Tinkercad. We worked as a design team and created 35 buildings on Main Street.
The students learned the basics and had an amazing experience through this project.
What is your favorite model you have designed in Tinkercad?
Anything else you would like us to know? We have a YouTube video detailing our project if you would like to see all the designs printed out, and hear the students describe why they wanted to complete this project.
You can also see some photos and how the program developed on our Instagram:
Thanks Zachary–keep on tinkering!
