How did you find out about Tinkercad? In April 2016, I had an idea to 3D print our University campus, and I looked into Autodesk 123D, SketchUp and a few other programs before finding Tinkercad. Since our library had just leased the campus’ first 3D printer for student use, I thought this project would pique their interest. Tinkercad is the easiest to use design tool on the web.
What is your favorite feature in the Tinkercad editor? Oh my, there are so many! I would have to say it is the Copy and Paste tool. When I was creating window frames for the buildings (some had 120 windows) this feature saved me so much time!!
Why are you a #TinkerStar? Over the past year, I have created 3D files and printed the whole campus of Texas A&M University- Commerce. I took the buildings measurements from Google Earth, and created a model of the whole campus and football stadium using Tinkercad as the only design tool. The model I created is currently being constructed in my free time and will be a 36 square foot display.
What is your favorite model you have designed in Tinkercad?
Here is the our gym:
The buildings on campus are large and I was restricted to a 220mm X 220mm printing surface. Most buildings were printed in pieces, then constructed.
Anything else you would like us to know?
I was completely new to additive manufacturing and computer aided design. I am over 50 years old, and thanks to the design and usability of Tinkercad I was able to create an AMAZING 3D model of our university!
