What’s up with Education Accounts?

Hey Everyone,

Many of you have asked about education accounts and their future within Tinkercad.

Don’t worry, they’re not going away.  We are, however, working on complying with COPPA regulations (see below) – the timeline is fuzzy, there are a lot of legal issues and guidelines.  At the moment, children under the age of 13 can not – officially – create an account.  We want to have a system in place that allows for kids of all ages to safely Tinker and share their designs – both privately within a class or team, and publicly, when appropriate.

Once we get this built, it will lead to education licenses, teams, etc..    But in the meantime, the free option is in place and we don’t have plans to redact it anytime soon.  If we do, we’ll definitely keep in mind the timing of the school year so it’s not interruptive.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Official COPPA Statement: It is very important to us to protect the privacy and online safety of our younger users, and to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) regulations. We are working on a plan to allow folks of all ages to access our site, and we hope to get you access to your designs as soon as we have that plan in place. We do not retain personal information that violates COPPA, so we may not store your email address for future contact.
