Share your Tinkercad plan with family, friends and classmates!

You asked for it, now here it is! We officially have team accounts as part of our Bronze, Silver and Gold plans. What does this mean? More people! Many of you want to share your accounts with other family members and friends. Now you can. What about teachers and students who want to use Tinkercad in their classroom? Bam! Done.

All the members of a team will share the design storage limit. Remember that you can create an unlimited amount of designs as long as you delete the old ones to keep under the limit. Over the next few weeks we’ll release more features aimed at teams working together. Let us know what you think!

Enjoy!

Introducing Full Set of Creative Commons Licenses

There is a lot of collaboration happening on Tinkercad and one often requested feature has been the ability to have finer control over the license your design has on the site. We are now offering all six Creative Commons licenses plus obviously the option to keep your design private with no public license. It is important to note that you are always the copyright owner for your design independent of what license you choose to publish it on. You can always publish your design under some other license on a third party site or service. Additionally, the copy functionality now respects the license type.

The six different Creative Commons licenses are:

  • ShareAlike
  • Attribution
  • NoDerivs
  • NonCommercial-NoDerivs
  • NonCommercial
  • NonCommercial-ShareAlike

For those who are unfamiliar with Creative Commons licenses, you can read more about them here.

Note that there are limited licensing options for Trial and Legacy accounts. Trial accounts are limited to ShareAlike and Legacy accounts to ShareAlike and Private.

Enjoy!

Tinkercad Launches Paid Subscription Plans

It is with great excitement that we announce our first paid plans for Tinkercad. The team believes that our uncompromising focus on developing the world’s most advanced CAD software is highly dependent on working closely with all of you. Our mission is to enable millions of people to realize their personal and business dreams by letting them quickly turn an idea into a working 3D design.

For those who have been with Tinkercad since the early days, you will continue to enjoy the software you know and love free of charge. This means that users who signed up before today have been grandfathered into a Tinkercad legacy account.

On behalf of the Tinkercad team, we are honored and thankful to have worked with so many of you over the past year and half. I speak for all of us when I say we look forward to deepening our relationship over the years to come.

So long v1. Its been fun!

Yes, the time has come to close Tinkercad’s very first version. But the good news is we’re doing so because, well, everyone is using the newest and coolest version of Tinkercad!

So what does this mean for those with v1 accounts? If you still have models sitting around in v1, sign in (like right now!) and download the STL files. Then, using our niffty upload tool in v2, add them to tinkercad.com. Because come Monday, September 17th, v1 will be going buh-bye!

Thanks!

YouTube videos created by Tinkercad users

There are some fascinating videos of what Tinkercad users have designed using our platform. They share their process with you and provide some great insight into how to make your design just so. Take a look!

Tinkercad largest public repository of solid models

When Mikko and I founded Tinkercad in 2010 we set out to build the most advanced solid modeling tool in the world. One of our key innovations was a radical new cloud based CAD platform. Using this platform we were able to build a tool that is both extremely easy-to-use while still maintaining the power of true solid modeling.

Since launching tinkercad.com in 2011, we have been overwhelmed by the number of designs created with Tinkercad. This same community has used Tinkercad in ways we never imagined. They consistently challenge and impress us with their creativity and devotion to their craft. To date, the Tinkercad community has published more than 100,000 designs making us the largest public repository of solid models in the world.

Over time it has become clear the majority of our users hail from the United States. We want to continue to build, strengthen and support this growth. That is why we are excited to announce that Tinkercad is moving its headquarter and core product development to San Francisco, California. We just opened our new U.S. office in the vibrant South of Market district of the city.

I speak for the entire Tinkercad team when I say that we are honored to be working with such a passionate community of designers. We are looking forward to a closer collaboration with all of you.
